Spring events raise money for charities

Good food, amazing weather, fellowship and fundraising were the common themes at this year’s student-oriented Color Dodgeball Tournament April 9 at Purdue’s Intramural Fields and the Ryan Kerrigan/12th Boiler Golf Outing May 12 at Purdue’s Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

The dodgeball event was staged by a student organization, Purdue Gold Standard, which has also helped to provide personnel for other NFF-related events.

Former Purdue All-American Ryan Kerrigan, now a defensive standout with the NFL’s Washington Redskins, appeared for the sixth straight year at the golf scramble bearing his name that was sponsored jointly by the Tiller Chapter of the NFF and Purdue’s Trademarks Licensing Office. Many of the participants in the golf outing were vendors, retailers and licensees of Purdue University, along with several NFF chapter members.

After all the bills were paid, these two events (dodgeball and golf) cleared more than $6,000, with some of the proceeds going to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research and Kerrigan’s “Blitz for the Better” Foundation while most of the funds will go for scholarships — the 12th Boiler Fund in the John Purdue Club, helping to endow a Purdue football scholarship, and the NFF Scholarship Fund for high school senior heading into the first year of college. Last May, a record 76 golfers participated in the Kerrigan event
