Fundraising for the chapter’s scholarship commitments is a year-around concern that encompasses many activities and creative ideas from luncheons and dinners to golf outings, dodgeball tournaments, raffles, silent auctions and just flat-out solicitation of contributions.

This year’s spring activities started with a student-oriented Color Dodgeball Tournament April 18 at Purdue’s Horticulture Park, and continued May 8 with the Ryan Kerrigan/12th Boiler Golf Outing at Purdue’s Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

The dodgeball event was staged by a student organization, Purdue Gold Standard, which has also helped to provide personnel for other NFF-related events, including running the games for tonight’s reception.

Former Purdue All-American Ryan Kerrigan, now a defensive standout with the NFL’s Washington Redskins, appeared for the fourth straight year at the golf scramble baring his name that was sponsored jointly by the Tiller Chapter of the NFF and Purdue’s Trademarks Licensing Office.

Many of the participants in the golf outing were vendors, retailers and licensees of Purdue University, along with several NFF chapter members. Once all the bills are paid, it is expected that these two events (dodgeball and golf) will have cleared more than $5,000, with some of the proceeds going to the Purdue Center for Cancer Research and College Mentors for Kids while most of the funds will go for scholarships – the 12th Boiler Fund in the John Purdue Club, helping to endow a Purdue football scholarship, and the NFF Scholarship Fund for high school seniors.
