Patrick Mackey Courage Award

This award is given to provide recognition to an individual in our region who has exemplified great courage by surviving extreme personal hardship or difficulty OR who has assisted someone else in doing the same. The award-winner must be a high school, college or professional athlete, coach or administrator.

Selection process: Nominations are accepted in early winter from members of this chapter. Nominations are evaluated by the awards committee, which recommends no more than one recipient per year. This recommendation must be ratified by the Board of Directors and the presentation should be made at either Scholar-Athlete Banquet or the annual Honors Dinner.

2022 Honoree: Wade Peters of Carroll High School

2023: Ashlynn Brooke of Pioneer High School and Kendal Rider of Central Catholic High School


Wade Peters of Carroll High School received the Patrick Mackey Courage Award for overcoming a severe injury to compete in football and baseball his senior year.


Lafayette Central Catholic High School graduate and Purdue football player Danny Anthrop received the first annual Courage Award from the chapter for helping save the life of his uncle.

Tyler Trent Purdue University

Tyler Trent received the Courage Award in 2018 for his heroic efforts in battling cancer while making a tremendous impact on Purdue's campus through The Exponent, Purdue Center for Cancer Research, and Purdue University Dance Marathon.

Riley Lowder Delphi High School

Riley Lowder of Delphi High School was awarded with the 2017 award for being a valuable member of the Delphi football team while battling autism.
